Doris Burke Keeps Cutting a Path for Others to Follow

NBA Commentator Doris Burke Has a New Job, She'd Still Prefer to Talk Basketball

Here's a vote for a name that lacks cachet but not credibility: Doris Burke.

Doris Burke née Sable is an American sports announcer and analyst for NBA on ESPN, NBA on ABC, and College Basketball. On Wednesday night in New York City at an arena where she called New York Liberty games during the WNBA's 2000 season, Burke shared her thoughts about her new job as an analyst for Nets games for YES Network.

"I'm really excited about it," Burke said. "I think it's a great opportunity. I've always loved the Nets, and now I get to have my own team that I can actually root for. The way the Nets are playing right now, I will have a lot to talk about."

Burke, who has been an NBA analyst for ESPN since 2003, will continue her work for the network. She also will call select games for ABC and ESPN's coverage of the NBA playoffs.

"I'm going to be doing about 25 Nets games for YES," Burke said. "I'm going to do some ESPN games and ABC games. I'm going to do some NBA Finals games for ESPN. I'll definitely be busy, but I'm looking forward to it."

Burke is one of the most respected analysts in the NBA. She is known for her sharp basketball mind, her ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise way, and her passion for the game.

"Doris is a true professional," said Nets general manager Sean Marks. "She's one of the best in the business. We're thrilled to have her on our team. She's going to be a great asset to our organization."

Burke is excited about the opportunity to join the Nets broadcast team. She believes that the Nets, who moved to Brooklyn in 2012, have a bright future.

"I think the Nets are on the cusp of something special," Burke said. "They have a great young core of players, and they're playing with a lot of confidence. I think they're going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference."
